How even small and independent journals can contribute to the citation commons Slideshow uri icon

abstract

  • The dissemination of open publication metadata contributes significantly to the visibility of publications: If a publication is not listed in a service, it cannot be found. The quality and completeness of this data, in turn, help to ensure that articles can be correctly assessed by researchers. An important point here is citation metadata, which on the one hand can be used as a sorting or filtering criterion in scientific discovery services, and on the other hand indicate the interconnectedness of a publication in the graph of scientific publications. This in turn enables an exploratory search for related publications. We will highlight how journals (especially small and independent journals) using the Open Journal Systems (OJS) software can contribute to a commons of open citation information to improve the visibility and discoverability of (open access) publications.
