  • The panel discussion "Perspectives on Academic Freedom" was organized by the TIB - Leibniz Information Center for Science and Technology University Library as part of the 3rd International Conference "Open Science and Innovation in Ukraine 2024" (OSICU2024). The event, held under the German Year of Science 2024 – Academic Freedom, was funded by the German Federal Ministry of Education and Research (BMBF) and attracted 816 participants. The panel brought together prominent scientists and academics from Ukraine and Germany to explore the role of academic freedom, its challenges, and its significance in the advancement of science and democracy. The discussion addressed key challenges, including funding inequities, systemic traditions, and the importance of open dialogue in academia. Panelists highlighted the transformative role of academic freedom in fostering innovation, supporting democratic culture, and addressing societal needs. By emphasizing solidarity and international collaboration, the event underscored the collective responsibility to defend academic freedom and promote open science in an interconnected world.
