Job knowledge based personnel selection Conference Paper uri icon

abstract

  • This presentation will summarize the state of the art of four interrelated European-funded projects that are focused on leveraging the adequate and accurate assessment of job knowledge to facilitate personnel decision making in the realms of personnel selection, promotion, and the identification/amelioration of individual training needs. Despite having a validity that rivals that of General Mental Ability, job analytically derived and job specific knowledge tests continue to be largely eschewed in the field of personnel selection. In light of this, the OntoHR (see www.ontohr.eu) project (2009-2011) developed a personnel selection and training platform for the job role of ICT Systems Analyst the Med-Assess (see www.med-assess.eu) project (2012-2014) is transferring this innovation to nursing jobs at the individual level the Eduworks (see www.eduworks-network.eu) project (2013-2017) is aimed at using individual job knowledge to increase person-education-job demands-abilities fit (amongst others using a learning analytics approach) and the Ontotech project (2013-2015) is aimed at investigating how individuals acquire job knowledge and how job knowledge may be used for curriculum diagnostics. With the aid of technology, these projects (three of which are ongoing) are aiming to contribute to the development of 21st century methods and tools that may be employed not only to facilitate personnel selection decisions, but also to ensure that individuals and educational institutions alike are empowered to develop their job relevant knowledge against up-to-date and valid labor market requirements.
